RYA Day Skipper Practical Course at Largs, Scotland

The RYA Day Skipper sailing course is 5 day practical sailing course on the Clyde for aspiring skippers with some yachting experience and basic navigation and sailing skills. Largs on the Clyde in Scotland is the perfect place to take this sailing course. The RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification is the sailing qualification that most charter companies, in the UK and europe require you to have before chartering a yacht and can be exchanged for the ICC International certificate of Competence with the RYA. It is the first RYA skippering course and there is no better place to train than in Scotland.

To be ready for Day Skipper you need to have already done a Competent Crew Course or be at Competent Crew level and you need to have completed the RYA Day Skipper theory course or have navigational knowledge to the level of Day Skipper theory. This can be done online.

Accommodation and food are provided on board and we will aim to visit a different marina, harbour or anchorage each evening as we explore the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. Regular destinations on the Day Skipper course are Arran, Loch Fyne and the scenic Kyles of Bute.

You can book a single space or with a partner or friend. You can even book the whole boat and fill 5 spaces. This RYA Day Skipper practical course can be mixed with the RYA Competent Crew Course for those who wish to learn with a partner or friend who has done less sailing than themselves.

Pre-course experience: 5 days, 100 miles, 4 night hours on board a sailing yacht. You should have completed the RYA Competent Crew course first.

Assumed knowledge: Theory to the level of RYA Day Skipper theory. It is recommended you attend the Day Skipper theory course beforehand but not necessary if you have some experience of navigation.

Minimum age: 18

Day Skipper course content: Maintenance a Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising

Course starts: Sunday 19:30 @ Largs, Scotland.

The Day Skipper course can also be completed over 3 weekend cruises.

When comparing costs with other providers it is worth remembering that all costs are included in our courses including fuel, gas, consumables, food, certification and berthing.

Optional extras include food and drink ashore, purchasing a logbook if required and waterprooof hire.

When booking with other providers where berthing fees are not included, this is charged to the customer during the course adding a significant extra cost.

20% deposit is required to secure a place on the course with the balance due 6 weeks before the course begins.
