Saint Kilda (St Kilda) adventure sailing

St kilda sailing adventure

Saint Kilda also known as St Kilda is an isolated volcanic archipelago situated 40 miles west-northwest of North Uist in the North Atlantic Ocean. It can be visited by sailing yacht but it is not an easy place to sail to and is a real adventure. It contains the westernmost islands of the Outer Hebrides whose sea cliffs are the highest in the United Kingdom.

The islands are home to many endangered species of birds, especially puffins and gannets. Uninhabited since 1930 it bears the evidence of more than 2,000 years of human occupation in the extreme conditions prevalent in the Hebrides.

A trip to saint Kilda is on many peoples bucket list, but it isn’t always easy to get there. This sail will involve some longer legs, night sailing and running a watch system accross some more exposed waters with the ultimate goal being to sail to and step ashore at this magical island.

This 10 day sailing trip gives plenty of opportunity to pick the right weather window to sail to St Kilda giving lots of time to enjoy the sites and offering a better chance of stepping ashore.
